What’s Love Got to Do with It? The Cyberpsychology of User Assistance

Cyberpsychology is the study of how human behavior influences our interactions with technology, and how technology influences human behavior. By understanding why people behave the way they do in online environments, and how they communicate with others online, we can explore new ways of improving their online experiences and provide them with assistance that takes into account human behavior and strengths.

In this workshop, we will focus on how Computer-Mediated Communication is changing not only how we communicate, but also our attitudes to information and the people who produce it. Drawing on examples from online dating, e-commerce, and communication such as hyperpersonal communication, group dynamics, digital literacy, and self-presentation, we will work together to identify and understand the real-world challenges in designing effective user assistance.
