John Sumpter

John Sumpter has fifteen years experience leading significant change and development in digital pedagogy across organisations in the UK and internationally.
Working as part of a team of subject specialists. John currently supports further, higher and skill sector education members to develop institutional and staff capabilities, working in partnership with senior leadership to influence change and deliver solutions. John also leads the Digital Leaders Programme that empowers leaders to respond more effectively to technology-driven change.

In addition to working at three Higher Education Institutions (HEI) John has worked internationally at:
*The Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences in Finland, developing blended and online learning strategies.

*The Queensland University of Technology and The University of Technology Sydney, Australia sharing best practices in online learning approaches.

*The University of Western Australia in 2018, working with the Educational Enhancement Unit to implement the Higher Education Academy (HEA) Framework and UK Professional Standards Framework (UKPSF).

John's teaching practice and scholarship is underpinned by a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education (PGCHE) and a Masters in Online and Distance Education (MA ODE (Open). John has also gained a Senior Fellowship (SFHEA) from the Higher Education Academy (HEA) in recognition of John's leadership and management of teaching and learning.

John is a regular speaker at international and national conferences on his specialist subject areas. These include digital leadership, institutional change, and online curriculum development.
